Pictory Review 2026: An AI Video Agent With a Credit Meter, From $29 a Month, and Billing Terms to Read First
Pictory turns scripts, articles, URLs and slides into stock-footage videos, and since Oct 22, 2026 an agent drafts the script and scenes for you to review. Credits meter AI clips, images and avatars, and on Nov 5, 2026 Pictory raised its avatar rates by half. Reviews praise speed; the one-star reviews are about renewals, cancellation and lost work.

| Made by | Pictory Corp, Bothell, Washington |
| What it is | Web app that turns text, URLs, slides and audio into videos, with an AI video agent |
| Starter | $29 a month, or $25 billed annually; 2,000 credits |
| Professional | $59 a month, or $35 annually; 6,000 credits |
| Teams | $199 a month, or $119 annually; 18,000 credits; 3+ users |
| Trial | 14 days, 300 credits, watermarked |
Pictory is a sensible way to turn existing text into stock-footage videos, and an expensive way to buy AI clips; read the renewal terms first.
“Pictory 3 is Pictory’s AI video agent experience. You describe the video you want, add sources, and answer setup questions.” Pictory, Oct 22, 2026.
Pictory builds videos from a script, article, web page, deck, audio file or idea, using stock footage, AI voices and captions. As of Nov 6, 2026 the paid plans are Starter ($29 a month, 2,000 credits), Professional ($59, 6,000 credits) and Teams ($199, 18,000 credits), or $25, $35 and $119 a month billed annually. Until Cyber Monday, Pictory’s blog offers 50% off Professional on annual billing.
Credits are where the cost hides. Veo 3.1 clips cost 20 credits a second, or 40 with audio, so Starter’s month makes 50 seconds of Veo 3.1 with sound. Stock avatars now cost 22.5 credits per 30 seconds and custom avatars 52.5, up from 15 and 35 in the same Help Center article on Oct 28. And Pictory’s own Pictory 3 guide says agent creation, revisions and AI voices also draw credits, at rates it does not publish.
The catches are money and trust. The terms say all fees are non-refundable, 17% of 685 Trustpilot reviews are one-star (many about cancellation, renewals and lost work), and a paused monthly plan restarts itself after 90 days. In Pictory’s favour, the terms say customer content is not used to train models unless agreed in writing.
Not a hands-on test: JAVIS has not created a Pictory account or generated a video. It rests on Pictory’s own pages and videos, public Trustpilot reviews and one independent tester, all dated.
A browser tool that starts from content you already have, with an agent that drafts the first cut.
Pictory is a web app: start from text, a URL, a deck, audio or a screen recording, then pick voice, visuals, aspect ratio and brand kit. Per the pricing page, every plan gets the same toolkit; plans differ in credits, users, brand kits and storage.
Pictory 3. Per Pictory’s Oct 22, 2026 announcement, you describe topic, audience, purpose and length, answer five setup questions (voiceover, visual sources, aspect ratio, layout preset, brand kit), review a script and scenes, then refine by chat or in the editor. Documents and URLs share a limit of five sources per request. Older projects are not converted, and personal avatars, voice clones and translation stay in the classic editor.

A long-running small-company product with a large public review base and a split verdict on billing.
685 reviews, Nov 6, 2026
10% four-star, 3% three-star
3% two-star
Trustpilot, same page
Pictory claims “over 20,000 teams and institutions” and a 4.6/5 badge without a review count; neither is verified. The first version launched in July 2020, per its about page. On Oct 28, 2026 the Trustpilot listing showed 4.3 from 675 reviews; by Nov 6 it was 4.2 from 685.

Praise is about speed and ease; the one-star reviews are about cancellation, renewals, lost work and generic footage.
Evidence here: Trustpilot (latest reviews in each group, Nov 6, 2026) and one independent tester. G2 and Capterra ratings are not used, so Pictory’s 4.6/5 and 4.7/5 badges stay unchecked. Hacker News has no usable discussion. Reviews are paraphrased.
What people like
A support agent spent an hour working through the reviewer’s problems and resolved everything; calls Pictory a powerful tool.
Easy to use without video-editing experience, and saves a lot of time turning ideas and written content into videos.
Calls the experience great, with one wish: uploaded pictures and videos all land in the same place, and separate folders would help.
What people question
Not satisfied with the videos, tried to cancel, and a chatbot “started to discuss” instead of confirming the cancellation. Pictory replied that it had escalated the case.
“‘cancel subscription’ does not register”: the cancel button led to an AI chat bot and auto-billing stayed on. Pictory replied on Oct 9 that it had escalated the case.
“11 of 19 videos never rendered, no real support resolution”: projects showed no download after a support ticket.
“Very buggy, deleted my work, and no refund”: saved work disappeared and support could not fix or refund it.
On an API plan for a history channel, matched stock footage was generic and off-period (modern refineries for a Gilded Age topic). Pictory replied that niche historical topics may need curated media.
What an independent tester found on output
The only public hands-on test of output quality we found is a 2026 review by TechSifted, republished on DEV Community. Its author ran eight articles through article-to-video and reports scene selection “contextually accurate about 70% of the time”, with generic footage on niche subjects, voice-overs where “The synthetic cadence is still there”, an estimated 94 to 96% caption accuracy on clear audio, and about two minutes to draft a 1,500-word article. Treat it as one tester’s account: the page carries an affiliate disclosure, and the plan prices it quotes do not match Pictory’s current price page.
A balanced reading: the stars come from speed and simplicity, and Pictory answers complaints publicly. Plan around the low-star pattern: confirm how to cancel, save exports, expect to swap some stock clips, and do not count on a refund.
From $29 a month, or $25 billed annually; add-on credit packs cost about three to nine times more per credit than plan credits.

| Model or feature | Credits |
|---|---|
| Veo 3.1, 1080p | 20 per second without audio, 40 with audio |
| Veo 3.1 Fast, 1080p | 10 per second without audio, 15 with audio |
| Omni Flash | 13 per second (always with audio) |
| Pixverse, 720p | Varies; quoted under the prompt box |
| AI image, 1920 x 1080 | Flux Schnell 0.6; Seedream 2; Nano Banana Lite 4; Nova Canvas 4; Nano Banana 8; Nano Banana Pro 14 |
| Stock avatar | 22.5 per 30 seconds (was 15 on Oct 28) |
| Custom avatar | 52.5 per 30 seconds (was 35 on Oct 28) |

What else draws credits. The Help Center says credits pay for generated images, video and avatars, and lists transcription among features “not part of the AI Credits system”. Pictory’s Pictory 3 Academy guide goes wider: “AI creation, AI revision, AI voices, AI Studio, transcription, avatars, and video generation use AI Credits.” Neither page gives a rate for agent creation or revision. Budget as if the wider list is right, and watch Usage history during the trial.

Add-on packs and Teams seats
| Add-on pack | Price | Per 1,000 credits |
|---|---|---|
| 500 credits | $25 | $50 |
| 1,000 credits | $49 | $49 |
| 1,500 credits | $70 | $46.67 |
| 3,000 credits | $135 | $45 |
| 5,000 credits | $199 | $39.80 |
Teams seats. The pricing page shows Teams at $199 a month with “3+ users” and no per-seat price. The Help Center (Nov 5, 2026) says Teams credits are pooled and “determined by the number of seats in your plan”, giving only an illustrative example, and a Teams FAQ (Apr 25, 2024) caps a team at 20 invited users. For more than three people, get a written seat quote first.

Rules worth quoting. Unused credits roll over and “never expire for as long as you have an active subscription” (Help Center). If you do not renew, you “will no longer be able to access the projects you created on that account”, but you can pause at $1 a month (auto-renewal article, Sep 9, 2026). A paused monthly plan stays paused for 90 days, then “will automatically reactivate on the same plan” (pause article, Jul 23, 2026).

What one month of plan credits buys, calculated from the rate card, and why plan credits beat packs.
Arithmetic on the Nov 6, 2026 rate card, one model at a time. Each figure is a ceiling: agent work and AI voices also use credits at unpublished rates, and the plan cards cap video at 30, 90 or 300 minutes a month without saying how minutes and credits interact.
| One month of credits spent only on | Starter (2,000) | Professional (6,000) | Teams (18,000) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veo 3.1 with audio (40 a second) | 50 s | 150 s | 450 s |
| Veo 3.1 Fast with audio (15 a second) | 133 s | 400 s | 1,200 s |
| Stock avatar (22.5 per 30 s) | about 44 min | about 133 min | about 400 min |
| Custom avatar (52.5 per 30 s) | Not on Starter | about 57 min | about 171 min |
| Nano Banana Pro images (14 each) | 142 | 428 | 1,285 |
Annual commitment. Professional costs $708 over 12 monthly payments and $420 billed annually, a $288 saving of about 41%. Starter’s saving is smaller: $25 against $29 is about 14%, so “save up to 40%” holds for Professional and Teams, not Starter. With a no-refund clause, annual billing only pays off if you will use all twelve months.

Match your situation to one line.
Content-to-video, an AI agent, generated media, avatars and branding in one editor.
AI Studio. Four video models (Veo 3.1, Veo 3.1 Fast, Pixverse 5.5, Omni Flash) and six image models (Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana, Nano Banana Lite, Seedream, Flux Schnell, Nova Canvas), priced in credits as above.
Voices, avatars and branding. ElevenLabs voices, stock avatars on every plan, custom avatars and voice clones from Professional; the terms bar using a likeness or voice without consent. Brand kits (1, 1, 5, 10 by plan), automatic subtitles exported as .srt, .vtt or txt, and 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 exports.
Stock media. Storyblocks and Getty Images footage. The pricing page lists 5 million+ clips on Starter and 18 million+ on Professional, and a Help Center article is titled “Why can’t I use Getty Images on the Starter plan?”, so check which library a Starter video can use.
A cautious first week: trial, one real source, check the draft, export, then decide.

Cancellation, auto-renewal, support loops, moving credit rates and a brand-new agent.
No refunds for unused services; auto-renewal on by default. Reviews from Mar to Nov 2026 describe cancel buttons that route to a chat bot.
A monthly plan paused at $1 a month reactivates after 90 days unless you act.
Avatar credits rose 50% on Nov 5, 2026; the pricing page does not list avatar rates.
Pictory 3 is weeks old. It rolls out to new users first, and Pictory says you must check names and numbers yourself. Support answers every negative Trustpilot review, yet reviewers still describe a chat bot handling cancellations; treat support as unproven for your case.

A separate API product with its own plans, an MCP integrator and a Pictory GPT.
Pictory’s API offers text, URL, PowerPoint and video-to-video generation for your own stack, with an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrator so AI agents can automate video creation. It is not included in any web plan. The API pricing page lists API Self-Serve at $79 a month billed annually (7,200 video minutes a year, including 1,440 ElevenLabs voice-over minutes) and a custom enterprise plan; API customers get AI credits that roll over the same way. See JAVIS’s Claude MCP and connectors guide for how MCP connectors work in general.
SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are claimed; the terms rule out model training on your content without a written agreement.
The trust page (pictory-corp.trust.site) lists SOC 2 and ISO 27001 as compliant and describes encryption at rest and in transit; these are vendor statements. The Terms of Service say “Pictory will not use Customer Content to train machine learning models unless expressly agreed in writing”, while allowing non-identifiable aggregated use to improve services. The terms warn AI output may be inaccurate. The privacy policy keeps personal data as long as needed and takes access requests by email; deleting an unrenewed account is not covered in the pages we reviewed, so ask support before you stop paying.

US company in Bothell, Washington; chat and email support; terms that favour the vendor on refunds.
Pictory Corp is based in Bothell, Washington. Support is in-app chat and email (support@pictory.ai), with priority support on Teams. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.
Content teams with text-first material and no editing staff.
Marketers, trainers and educators turning blogs, scripts, slides and webinars into short branded videos, who value speed over cinematic control.
Filmmakers wanting shot-level control, niche or historical topics that stock footage covers poorly, buyers mainly after cheap generated clips, and anyone who cannot accept a no-refund annual plan.
Six things to check before paying.
All fees non-refundable per the terms.
After 90 days on monthly plans.
Unrenewed accounts lose project access.
Avatar rates rose 50% on Nov 5; help pages disagree on what draws credits.
“3+ users” with no published per-seat price.
One tester puts scene matching at about 70% accurate.
Not like-for-like: each tool meters a different unit. Entry paid plans as of Nov 6, 2026.
| Tool | Entry plan, monthly | Billed annually | What the plan meters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pictory Starter | $29 | $25 a month | 2,000 credits, up to 30 mins a month |
| invideo Basic | $9 per seat | $4 per seat with a 50% off tag | 190 credits per seat; Pro is $30 for 1,000 |
| HeyGen Creator | $29 | Advertised as 2 months free | Monthly credits; avatars and a video agent |
| Runway Standard | $15 | $12 a month | 625 credits = 52 s of Gen-4.5 or 104 s of Gen-4 Turbo |
