Pipedream Review 2026: Workflows Is Shutting Down. Here Is What You Can Still Buy.
Pipedream was the developer's favourite workflow tool: code when you wanted it, no-code when you did not. In October 2026 that is no longer the product. Workday bought the company in late 2025, and Pipedream's own docs now say Workflows and String shut down on March 31, 2027, with no new signups since September 30. What remains is Connect, managed auth and 10,000+ tools for AI agents, free to build on and $99 a month to take to production, plus Conduit in early access. This review checks all of that against Pipedream's pricing page and docs, and says who should still care.

| Ownership | Workday (closed Dec 2025) |
| Free tier | Dev only -- no production |
| Cheapest paid plan | $99/mo (Startup, annual) |
| Workflows | Closing Mar 31, 2027 |
| Product Hunt | 5.0/5, 24 reviews |
Pipedream is not the workflow tool most reviews describe. Workflows is closing on March 31, 2027, and what is left is a developer layer for AI agent integrations.
"If you came here to compare Pipedream with Zapier or Make, stop at the headline fact: Pipedream's own documentation says Workflows and String 'will shut down on March 31, 2027', that Workflows is in maintenance mode, and that it is 'no longer accepting signups or subscriptions'. What Pipedream is keeping and building is Connect: managed auth, a remote MCP server and 10,000+ prebuilt tools across 3,000+ APIs for developers who build agents, plus Conduit, an early-access gateway for companies."
My honest read: do not start anything new on Pipedream Workflows. If you already run workflows there, you have until March 31 to move, and the export tool gives you the structure as JSON. If you build AI agents or an app that needs customer-facing integrations, Connect is a credible product that is free to build on, but it now sits inside Workday and the path to production starts at $99 a month. This is a VERIFIED EDITORIAL REVIEW: official pricing, docs and press checked on Oct 3, 2026. I did not run a controlled hands-on test.
Two live products (Connect and Conduit), one closing product (Workflows), and a new owner, Workday.
Pipedream's homepage now says "The integration layer for AI agents". Connect gives developers managed OAuth for 3,000+ APIs, 10,000+ prebuilt tools and triggers, a remote MCP server and a raw API proxy. Conduit, in early access, is a gateway that lets employees connect their apps to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants with SSO, access policies and an audit trail. Workflows, the visual and code workflow builder that made Pipedream popular, is the product being shut down. Pipedream's homepage no longer lists it.

Ownership matters here more than in the other automation reviews. Workday announced a definitive agreement to acquire Pipedream on Nov 19, 2025, citing 5,000+ Pipedream customers and 11,000+ Workday organisations; press and Pipedream's own post on X report the deal closed in early December 2025, alongside Workday's Sana and Flowise acquisitions. Pipedream's founder-CEO Tod Sacerdoti said joining Workday would bring "that simplicity to more than 11,000 organizations".
A developer favourite that sold to an enterprise HR company, then narrowed its focus to AI agent plumbing.

Reviews are warm, but nearly all of them are about the product that is closing.
5.0 out of 5. "Perfect blend of no/low-code that actually makes me more efficient at my job." Another: "Easy to use with its 100s of built-in integrations, and if they don't work exactly as needed, you have the source to modify." Mostly describes Workflows, and review dates were not shown in what I read.
4.6 out of 5 from 16 reviews. Reviewers praise easy onboarding, mixing no-code components with custom code and strong webhook and trigger control. Aggregated cons: you need developer skills, credit pricing gets expensive at scale, and managing many workflows gets cluttered.
Frames the Workday deal as the main risk: "Roadmap priority now flows through Workday's platform strategy, not independent agent-builder feedback" and "The product you'd build on is mid-integration, not sitting still." Written before the shutdown notice and from a competitor's vantage point.

What counts as a credit: running an action, calling a tool through MCP, sending a request through the Connect proxy and emitting an event from a deployed trigger each use 1 credit per 30 seconds of compute. Listing apps and accounts and configuring components do not use credits. An external user is each distinct end user of your app who connects at least one account; one user with five apps counts once.
Pick by whether you already use Workflows and what you are building.
Export them (JSON, one project at a time), choose a replacement and migrate before Mar 31, 2027.
Not Pipedream. Compare Zapier, Make or n8n.
Connect is built for exactly this; start free in development.
Connect managed auth, from $99/mo for production.
Conduit (early access) or compare Zapier's enterprise controls.
Compare self-hostable n8n or a direct MCP route.
Your agent calls a tool; Pipedream holds the OAuth token so your code and the model never see it.
Connect's pitch is that building integrations for an app or agent is mostly auth plumbing. A developer passes an external_user_id, the end user completes a managed OAuth flow, and Pipedream stores the credential as a "connected account". Pipedream's docs say credentials are encrypted at rest and "Pipedream does not store API request payloads or response bodies". From there you can use the 10,000+ prebuilt tools through the remote MCP server, or send raw requests through the proxy, which looks up the user's access token and inserts it into the upstream API call.

| Connect capability | What it does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Managed auth | OAuth for 3,000+ APIs; accept auth via Client SDK or Connect Link | pipedream.com/docs/connect |
| Prebuilt tools | 10,000+ tools and triggers from 3,000+ APIs, via MCP | pipedream.com, docs |
| Remote MCP server | Point an MCP client at remote.mcp.pipedream.net with an external user id | pipedream.com homepage |
| Proxy API | Call any API; Pipedream injects the user token | docs, proxy diagram |
| Custom OAuth clients | Bring your own OAuth app credentials | pipedream.com/pricing |
- Free development access to every feature with no card, and unlimited team members.
- Credentials stay out of your app and out of the model's context.
- A TypeScript SDK and a documented proxy for APIs without a prebuilt tool.
- Pipedream's tool counts are its own; I did not test the quality or coverage of individual tools.
- Production access is paid from the first user: Startup at $99/mo for 100 users, then $2 per extra user.
- Roadmap now runs through Workday.
Build and test in development for free, then pay when real users connect accounts.

A sample from Pipedream's own homepage shows the shape of it: an MCP client connects to https://remote.mcp.pipedream.net with an x-pd-external-user-id header, then calls a tool such as slack-send-message; or code calls pd.proxy.post against any API. That is the whole product in two snippets.
A product demo of Connect from Pipedream. It is from December 2024, before the Workday deal, so the interface and pricing it shows may have changed; use it for the concept, not the current screens.
Published by the official "pipedream" YouTube channel (youtube.com/@pipedreamhq). The channel's most recent upload in its RSS feed is from July 2025, so it appears dormant.
Pipedream does not build your agent. It makes the tools and credentials your agent needs.
This is the biggest difference from Zapier Agents or Make AI Agents: Pipedream does not sell an agent builder. Customers on its homepage include Alibaba, Apollo.io, Lindy, Perplexity, Relevance AI, Sana, Viktor, Wordware and Workday, mostly companies that build agents or assistants and use Pipedream underneath. Automation, in the sense of scheduled and triggered workflows, is the part being retired. Deployed triggers still exist inside Connect and each emitted event costs credits.
- An agent product that needs end users to connect many different apps.
- Prototyping tool use with a real MCP server before you commit.
- It is infrastructure, not a finished automation product for non-developers.
- An agent holding user OAuth tokens can act in those users' apps; scope tools carefully.
The integration catalogue is the product now: 3,000+ APIs and 10,000+ tools, plus Conduit for employees.
Conduit, in early access, presents itself as an "AI connector gateway": 3,000+ connectors plus custom MCP servers, OpenAPI and GraphQL, one secure endpoint handling authentication, access policies, audit logs and observability. Access can be granted to a whole workspace, groups or individuals, down to individual tools. It works with Okta and any OIDC provider, exports OpenTelemetry, and can run as a self-hosted Docker image or managed cloud, per Pipedream's Conduit page. I did not see pricing for it.
| Integration | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Connect MCP server | Remote MCP server for 10,000+ tools; per-user auth | Active, usage-based credits |
| Connect proxy | Authenticated raw API calls | Active, usage-based credits |
| Conduit gateway | Employee-facing connectors with SSO, policies, audit trail | Early access signup |
| Workflows triggers and actions | Event-driven workflows with code | Closing Mar 31, 2027 |
| Open registry on GitHub | Source for components | Pipedream Source Available License |
If you want an assistant to reach your apps without a middle layer, JAVIS's Claude MCP and Connectors guide covers the direct route.
Free in development, usage-metered in production, and nothing for Workflows going forward.
| What you are doing | What you pay |
|---|---|
| Building and testing an agent | $0 on Free; full API, SDK and MCP access in development |
| First production user | Startup: $99/mo annual or $150/mo monthly |
| 100 external users | Included in Startup |
| 250 external users | 150 extra users x $2 = $300/mo on top of Startup (JAVIS arithmetic from the published $2 rate) |
| Usage beyond 10,000 credits | $0.012 per credit, so 100,000 extra credits is $1,200 (JAVIS arithmetic); the rate drops at volume |
| One MCP tool call that runs 30 seconds or less | 1 credit; a longer call uses one credit per 30 seconds |
| Running Workflows | Existing subscriptions run to Mar 31, 2027, then are auto-cancelled with a prorated refund |
SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR on every plan; SSO, SCIM and HIPAA only on Business.
| Control | What's in place (Pipedream's own claims) |
|---|---|
| Compliance | SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR on all plans; HIPAA on Business |
| Credentials | Encrypted at rest, scoped per project, not exposed to your app; revoke any account with one API call |
| Payloads | Pipedream says it does not store API request payloads or response bodies for Connect |
| Identity | SSO and SCIM on Business only; Conduit supports Okta and OIDC |
| Audit | Conduit adds an audit trail of sign-ins, policy changes and tool calls (early access) |
| Workflows data | Deleted by Apr 30, 2027, including connected-account credentials and OAuth tokens |
Developers building agents, yes. Anyone shopping for a workflow tool, no.
| Situation | Why Pipedream fits (or does not) | Likely plan |
|---|---|---|
| Team building an AI agent product | Managed auth and 10,000+ tools via MCP | Free, then Startup |
| SaaS adding customer-facing integrations | Connect Link and managed OAuth | Startup, then Business |
| Company rolling out AI assistants to staff | Conduit gateway, if early access suits you | Business |
| Existing Workflows user | Must migrate by Mar 31, 2027 | Keep until cutoff |
| Non-developer wanting simple automations | Not designed for it; Workflows is closed to you | Look elsewhere |
| Anyone wary of vendor roadmap shifts | Workday ownership and the Workflows shutdown are the evidence | Prefer self-hostable options |
Five real gaps, not manufactured ones.
Workflows and String shut down on March 31, 2027, with data deleted by April 30. Pipedream says it falls "outside" its new focus.
You get an export of workflow structure as JSON, one project at a time, but not a ready import into another tool. Rebuilding code-heavy workflows in another tool is real work.
Free is development only. Real users need Startup, and external users beyond 100 are $2 each.
Workday ownership means roadmap priority flows through Workday, as analysts note. The GitHub repo is under a source-available licence, not an OSI open-source licence.
Fifth gap, smaller: evidence is stale. Most public reviews, including G2 and Product Hunt, describe Workflows, and I found none written since the shutdown notice. The official YouTube channel has also been quiet since July 2025.
If you came for workflows, go elsewhere. If you came for agent plumbing, compare directly.
| If you mostly need... | Compare Pipedream with... |
|---|---|
| A no-code automation tool with the widest app catalogue | Zapier (JAVIS review) |
| Visual branching at a lower entry price | Make (JAVIS review) |
| Self-hosted workflows with code, to replace Pipedream Workflows | n8n |
| Direct assistant-to-app connections via MCP | Claude MCP & Connectors guide |
| Agent frameworks to build on | OpenAI Agents SDK, LangGraph |
| Entry point (verified Oct 3, 2026) | Pipedream | Zapier | Make |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Development only | 100 tasks / mo | 1,000 credits / mo, 2 active scenarios |
| Cheapest paid | $99/mo annual; $150 monthly (Connect, not Workflows) | $19.99/mo annual (750 tasks); $29.99 monthly | $9/mo for 10,000 credits (billing cycle not confirmed) |
| Unit of billing | Credits (30 s of compute) + external users | Tasks (successful actions) | Credits (1 per non-AI module run) |

Questions people are actually searching right now
Is Pipedream shutting down?
Partly. Pipedream says Workflows and String will shut down on March 31, 2027 and that existing workflows run normally until then. Connect, its MCP servers and API proxy are not affected and are where it says its focus is.
Can I still sign up for Pipedream Workflows?
No. Pipedream's docs say it is no longer accepting signups or subscriptions for Workflows, and the signup cutoff was September 30, 2026.
How much does Pipedream cost in October 2026?
Free is $0 for development only. Startup is $99 a month on annual billing or $150 monthly, with production use, 100 external users and 10,000 credits. Business is custom. Verified on pipedream.com/pricing, Oct 3, 2026.
Who owns Pipedream?
Workday. It announced the acquisition on Nov 19, 2025 and the deal closed in early December 2025.
What happens to my workflow data?
All Workflows data, including connected-account credentials and OAuth tokens, is permanently deleted by April 30, 2027. An export tool downloads the structure of your workflows as JSON, one project at a time.
What is Pipedream Connect?
A developer toolkit with managed OAuth for 3,000+ APIs, 10,000+ prebuilt tools via a remote MCP server, and an API proxy, aimed at people building agents and apps.
Is Pipedream open source?
Not in the OSI sense. The GitHub repository is under the Pipedream Source Available License, so the source is visible but the licence is custom.
What are the best alternatives?
n8n if you need code-friendly workflows you can self-host, Zapier or Make for no-code automation, and the Claude MCP guide for direct assistant connections.
Where this came from, and when it was checked.
Shutdown and billing: pipedream.com/docs/workflows ("Workflows and String Are Shutting Down on March 31, 2027"), checked Oct 3, 2026. The Sept 30 signup cutoff date appears in a third-party repository note that cites the same page; the page itself says signups are no longer accepted and gives the six-month window.
Pricing: pipedream.com/pricing, checked Oct 3, 2026; $99 annual and $150 monthly taken from the page's own screen-reader price labels (an earlier reading had misread them). pipedream.com/docs/pricing for credit definition.
Product: pipedream.com, /conduit, /docs/connect, /docs/connect/api-proxy.
Ownership: Workday newsroom, Nov 19, 2025; closing from Pipedream's post on X and press summaries (a December 4, 2025 date appears in search results, not in a primary document I read).
Market: Pipedream's own homepage figures; Workday's 5,000+ customers; GitHub data for stars and licence. No revenue or deal price found.
Real users: Product Hunt (5.0, 24 reviews) read directly; G2 (~4.6, 16 reviews) search-aggregated; Peliqan (Jun 10, 2026) and Scalekit (Jul 29, 2026) analyses, both written before the shutdown notice. Reddit and Hacker News produced no usable Pipedream product feedback; the Hacker News Workday thread was about Workday itself.
Official video: youtube.com/watch?v=kCbYyW7oOWI, author "pipedream" on YouTube; channel last uploaded July 2025.
JAVIS Fit Score (42/100): editorial composite for a new buyer today: Connect is a credible developer product (strengths: managed auth, tool breadth, free development tier) but the flagship Workflows product is closed to new buyers, production starts at $99, the roadmap now follows Workday and there is no post-shutdown user evidence. It is not a benchmark and it would be higher if you are specifically building agents.
